Today Sensex drops over 40 pts, Nifty near 24,18; IT stocks under pressure, VIX rises
Indian equity benchmarks traded firmly in the red on Tuesday, with the Sensex declining more than 400 points and the Nifty hovering around the 24,180 mark. The Sensex was down 400 points, while the Nifty slipped 100 points, IT stocks bore the brunt of the selling pressure, with the sectoral index declining nearly 1.5%. Realty and PSU Bank stocks also remained weak. Meanwhile, Oil & Gas gained 0.61%, while Auto and Pharma stocks traded with gains. $INFY and !HCLTech declined around 2% each, emerging among the biggest Nifty laggards. Market breadth remained weak, with 1,685 shares advancing against 1,959 declining. India VIX climbed 2.47%, signalling a rise in market volatility. Sensex, Nifty Today | IT index slides nearly 1.5%; Realty, PSU Bank among other laggards The Nifty IT index fell 1.49%, making it the worst-performing sectoral gauge. Realty declined 0.81% and PSU Bank slipped 0.59%, while Metal shed 0.42%. Bank Nifty and Consumer Durables also remained under pressure, easing 0.35% each.
