Shares of Vishal Mega Mart Limited jumped nearly 9% on Monday after the company’s board approved the reappointment of Gunender Kapur as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for a fresh five-year term. The stock rose as high as around ₹113 levels, marking one of its strongest single-day gains in recent months.
The board, at a meeting held on August 21, cleared Kapur’s reappointment effective September 1, 2026, lasting until August 31, 2031, subject to shareholder approval. He has also been redesignated as Founder, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Kapur was originally appointed to the dual role in June 2024 for a three-year term that was scheduled to end in June 2027. The early extension provides long-term leadership continuity.
Kapur brings more than 42 years of experience in the consumer and retail sectors, having previously worked with Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Industries and TPG Capital. Analysts noted that the move addresses succession concerns and supports the retailer’s growth strategy. Vishal Mega Mart currently operates over 800 stores across India and recently reported a 25.6% year-on-year rise in consolidated net profit for the June quarter.#StockInNews#WatchOutFor
