Bank of Baroda: Q1 FY27 Earnings Briefing

$BANKBARODA Executive Summary Bank of Baroda reported a challenging June quarter, heavily impacted by a substantial one-time exceptional loss that severely compressed bottom-line profitability. Core operating metrics also experienced headwinds, with Net Interest Income (NII) missing consensus estimates and asset quality metrics showing mild sequential deterioration. Key Financial Highlights Net Profit: Plunged 72% YoY to ₹1,278 crore (compared to ₹4,541.4 crore in the year-ago period), drastically missing the CNBC-TV18 consensus poll estimate of ₹5,319 crore. Exceptional Item: Earnings were weighed down by a ₹5,680.2 crore one-time exceptional loss booked during the quarter. Net Interest Income (NII): Grew 10% YoY to ₹12,525 crore (vs. ₹11,435 crore last year), but fell short of Street expectations of ₹12,745 crore, indicating softer core operating growth. Provisions: Declined sharply to ₹643 crore, compared to ₹3,150 crore in the preceding quarter and ₹1,967 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Asset Quality Trends The lender witnessed a mild sequential moderation in asset quality metrics: Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA): Increased to 1.99% at the end of June, up from 1.89% in the March quarter. Net Non-Performing Assets (NNPA): Rose to 0.50% from 0.45% sequentially. Investor Takeaway While headline profitability was significantly distorted by the large one-time charge, the top-line NII miss and sequential uptick in gross and net NPAs point to a softer quarter overall. Investors will need to monitor core credit growth normalization and asset quality stabilization in upcoming quarters.
