Quick Commerce Leader Zepto Secures $450M Pre-IPO Funding at $7B Valuation

ETERNAL
Mumbai-based quick commerce firm Zepto has successfully closed a significant funding round, raising approximately $450 million. This mix of primary and secondary transactions values the company at $7 billion, marking a crucial pre-IPO milestone. The funding round was led by a new, high-profile investor, the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), one of the world’s largest pension funds, alongside strong participation from existing investors. This institutional backing underscores confidence in Zepto's scalable model and market leadership. Co-founder & CEO Aadit Palicha highlighted the company’s accelerated growth and operational efficiency: Zepto has scaled daily orders by 250% over the past five quarters, increasing from 500,000 to approximately 1.6–1.7 million orders per day, while achieving profitability in hundreds of its dark stores. The capital infusion strengthens Zepto’s balance sheet, providing nearly $1 billion in cash reserves for strategic expansion and technological advancement. Plans include opening several hundred new dark stores, enhancing its network of 1,000+ locations, and deepening investments in proprietary technology, AI, and supply chain intelligence, particularly to scale its high-growth, ₹2,000 crore annualized run rate advertising vertical. Zepto, founded in 2020, has become one of India's fastest-growing startups. This raise follows an aggressive funding trajectory, including rounds in June, August, and November 2024. Palicha confirmed the financing is a “pre-IPO financing,” signaling an imminent path toward public listing. The focus remains on driving superior supply chain and cost excellence as a core differentiator in India’s competitive quick commerce sector.
