Closing: Sensex Drops 539 Points, Nifty Slips Below 24,100

Market Close | August 27, 2026: Indian benchmark indices extended their losses for the second consecutive session on Thursday, with heightened selling pressure weighing on the market. The Sensex declined 539.35 points, or 0.70%, to 76,933.59, while the Nifty50 shed 116.90 points, or 0.48%, to settle at 24,090.85. Among Nifty50 constituents, !Hindalco Industries, !HDFC Bank, !M&M,

echnologies and !Shriram Finance were among the biggest decliners. Meanwhile, !Kotak Mahindra Bank, !Adani Enterprises, !Bharat Electronics, !Cipla and !Adani Ports emerged as notable gainers. On the sectoral front, Consumer Durables and Pharma advanced nearly 1% each. In contrast, Media, Metals, Oil & Gas, PSU Banks, Auto and FMCG indices ended lower, declining around 0.4–0.9%.
