First Bell: Key Global Cues to Track in Today’s Session

Crude oil prices slipped nearly 3% on Monday after U.S. President Donald Trump indicated over the weekend that Iran is “seriously engaged” in talks with Washington. Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty are expected to open on a positive note on February 2, supported by gains in GIFT Nifty, which was trading higher around 24,879. During a highly volatile Budget Day session on February 1, domestic equity markets ended sharply lower. The Nifty slipped below the 24,600 mark intraday after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Union Budget address, announced an increase in the Securities Transaction Tax (STT) on equity F&O trades. At the close, the Sensex declined 1,546.84 points (1.88%) to 80,722.94, while the Nifty fell 495.20 points (1.96%) to 24,825.45.
