UltraTech Cement Falls 5% From Intraday High After Q2 Earnin

ULTRACEMCO
ch Cement shares declined nearly 5% from their intraday high on October 19 after the company reported its Q2 FY27 financial results, which came in below market expectations. Higher input costs continued to weigh on profitability despite strong sales volume growth. KEY HIGHLIGHTS 🔹 Net Profit: Consolidated net profit increased 21.3% year-on-year to ₹1,494 crore for the quarter ended September 30, compared with analysts’ expectations of ₹1,705 crore. 🔹 Operating EBITDA: EBITDA per tonne improved by approximately ₹60 year-on-year to ₹974. 🔹 Sales Volume: Domestic grey cement sales volumes rose 13.8% to 35.94 million metric tonnes, supported by a favourable base effect and improving capital expenditure activity. 🔹 Installed Capacity: The company’s consolidated domestic grey cement capacity stood at 204.7 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) as of September 2026. 🔹 Cost Pressure: Higher raw material costs remained a concern, restricting the improvement in profitability despite healthy volume growth. WHY DID THE STOCK DECLINE? The shares came under pressure primarily because the company’s quarterly net profit fell short of analysts’ estimates. Rising input costs also remained a concern, highlighting the challenges of translating stronger sales volumes into better-than-expected earnings. INDUSTRY OUTLOOK Cement manufacturers could consider further price hikes after the festive season as construction activity gains momentum. Improved cement realisations, sustained demand and better cost management will be important factors in determining the sector’s margin recovery.
