Vedanta - A wide cloud, and why its thickness matters

VEDL
trades at Rs 272 and sits inside the Ichimoku cloud, which spans Rs 264.90 to Rs 304.85. What stands out is how thick that cloud is, close to 15% from base to top. Cloud thickness is a measure of how much disagreement is stored at those levels. A thin cloud is easily crossed in either direction. A thick one, as here, acts as a wide zone of resistance overhead and takes real effort and time to clear. That is the single most useful observation on this chart, and it argues for patience rather than anticipation. The Tenkan at Rs 279.38 and Kijun at Rs 276.18 both sit above price, while the Chikou span is above the price of 26 sessions ago, so the shorter and longer readings differ. The 50 EMA has fallen about 5.2% over 20 sessions. The fundamentals need care, because the reported growth is not what it appears. The demerger took effect on 1 May 2026, moving aluminium, oil and gas, iron ore and merchant power into separate entities, so this quarter carries one month of discontinued operations against three a year earlier and the YoY comparison is not like for like. On continuing operations, revenue was about Rs 24,205 Cr, up 53.6%, with profit after tax near Rs 5,294 Cr. Net debt fell about Rs 2,223 Cr and leverage stands around 0.3 times. What remains is a concentrated zinc, lead and silver business, so commodity price beta is now higher, and parent level leverage remains the standing concern.
