Cipla Expands US Biosimilar Oncology Portfolio
Cipla Ltd has entered into an exclusive US partnership with Qilu Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd through its wholly owned subsidiary Invagen Pharmaceuticals Inc. for QL2107, a biosimilar of Keytruda (pembrolizumab).
Under the agreement, Qilu will manage the product’s development, regulatory registration and supply, while Cipla USA Inc. will commercialise QL2107 in the defined US territory, subject to regulatory approval.
The partnership strengthens Cipla’s focus on building its biosimilar and oncology portfolio by combining Qilu’s R&D and manufacturing capabilities with Cipla’s established US commercial network. The companies aim to improve access to biologic cancer treatments while potentially supporting more affordable therapy options.
From a business perspective, the agreement provides Cipla with access to another potential oncology product without taking on responsibility for its development and manufacturing, while the commercial opportunity remains dependent on regulatory approval and subsequent launch.
The partnership is therefore a relevant step in Cipla’s stated strategy to expand its biosimilar portfolio over the coming fiscal years and strengthen its presence in the US biologics market.
