NTPC Limited's Growth, Financial Performance & Market Outlook
aims to achieve 130 GW of installed capacity by 2032, with 46% (60 GW) from renewables. Currently, it is developing 17.4 GW of renewable energy, with 39.5 GW under feasibility studies. A joint venture with IndianOil, NTPC Green Energy Pvt. Ltd., is working on 650 MW of renewable projects. These efforts align with India’s target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2031-32.
The company ensures fuel security through long-term agreements with Coal India (170.82 MMT ACQ) and Singareni Collieries (13.74 MMT ACQ). It has also secured 1.1 MMSCMD of RLNG from GAIL for gas-based plants, valid until July 2026.
Standalone Financial Performance
In Q3 FY25, standalone revenue increased slightly to ₹45,053 crore from ₹44,966 crore in Q2. Operating profit improved to ₹13,324 crore (30% OPM) from ₹11,655 crore (26% OPM), supported by lower expenses of ₹31,729 crore vs. ₹33,041 crore. PBT rose to ₹7,245 crore from ₹7,046 crore, but higher taxes (29% vs. 24%) resulted in a lower net profit of ₹5,170 crore vs. ₹5,380 crore. EPS declined from ₹5.44 to ₹5.22.
Market & Stock Outlook
India’s power sector is set to attract ₹17 lakh crore (US$ 205.31 billion) in the next 5-7 years, driven by rising electricity demand. Power consumption rose 9.5% YoY to 1,503.65 billion units (BU) in FY23. NTPC is well-positioned to capitalize on opportunities in green hydrogen, solar, and grid modernization.
Technically, NTPC remains in an uptrend, testing resistance at ₹371 before a pullback. It is above the 100-day EMA (₹339), with support at ₹339 and resistance at ₹356. RSI levels (daily: 59.57, weekly: 51.56) indicate moderate strength. Sustaining above ₹344 could lead to a retest of ₹371, with a breakout pushing the stock toward ₹380-₹411. A drop below ₹339 may trigger a correction to ₹329-₹320. With a favorable industry outlook, NTPC has the potential to rally 15-20% in 2025, targeting ₹410-₹426.
