Zydus Lifesciences and Apollo Hospitals Join Hands to Advance Early Cancer Detection in India
Zydus Lifesciences has partnered with Apollo Hospitals to expand access to the Shield Multi-Cancer Detection (MCD) blood test across India, marking an important step toward improving early cancer screening. The test, introduced through Zydus' exclusive partnership with Guardant Health, is designed for individuals aged 45 years and above who are at average risk of cancer and can screen for 10 common cancers like including bladder, colorectal, breast, prostate, oesophageal, gastric, liver, lung, ovarian and pancreatic cancer by using a single blood sample. The methylation-based test has received the US FDA Breakthrough Device Designation, although it is not a regulatory approval or clearance. The initiative comes at a time when cancer continues to be a major health challenge in India, accounting for nearly 9% of deaths related to non-communicable diseases. In 2022, the country reported more than 1.41 million new cancer cases and over 900,000 cancer-related deaths, while screening rates remained relatively low across many regions. By improving access to advanced screening technology, this collaboration aims to encourage earlier detection, support timely treatment and strengthen preventive healthcare across the country. $ZYDUSLIFE, $APOLLOHOSP Disclaimer: This post is for informational purposes only and not a recommendation to buy or sell any securities.
