Zydus Lifesciences, Potential Ardelyx Deal and QIP Plan

ZYDUSLIFE
is reportedly exploring an acquisition of US-based biopharma company Ardelyx, signalling a strategic push to scale its specialty business in the US market. The discussions include options to either acquire a controlling stake in Ardelyx or selectively purchase key molecules from its portfolio. Ardelyx currently has a market capitalisation of about $1.6 billion and owns two approved US products, IBSRELA and XPHOZAH, both based on tenapanor and focused on irritable bowel syndrome with constipation and chronic kidney disease, respectively. Ardelyx has guided IBSRELA revenues of $410–430 million for 2026, with a target of $1 billion by 2029, underscoring the commercial attractiveness of its assets. To partly fund a potential transaction and simultaneously strengthen its balance sheet, Zydus Life’s board had already approved raising up to ₹5,000 crore via a qualified institutional placement (QIP) on November 6, 2025. Management has earlier indicated that the primary objectives of the QIP are debt reduction and funding growth opportunities in US gastroenterology, as well as emerging prospects in central nervous system and cardiology segments.
