JSW Infra Bags Rs 740 Crore Kolkata Port Development Concession

Order Highlights:-- Letter of Award from the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority, Kolkata, to develop container berths at Netaji Subhas Dock. Reconstruction of Berth 8 and mechanisation of Berths 7 and 8 under a 30-year Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) concession. Estimated capex of Rs 740 crore, with construction and mechanisation to be completed over the next two years. Strategic Significance:-- Marks JSW Infra’s second east-coast presence and first project at Kolkata port, complementing its existing Paradip terminal in Odisha. Expected to add 1 million TEU container capacity, moving the company closer to its goal of 400 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) cargo handling capability. Currently, its New Mangalore Container Terminal handles 2 million TEUs (planned expansion to 3.05 million TEUs); the Kolkata project boosts overall container capacity significantly. Strengthens competitiveness against major players like Adani Ports & SEZ as JSW Infra rapidly expands nationwide. Execution Timeline:-- Two-year construction and mechanisation schedule, with partial operations slated to commence during the build phase by leveraging Kolkata’s stable cargo volumes. Upon completion, enhanced operational efficiency is expected to drive higher throughput and service quality at Netaji Subhas Dock.
