DR. REDDY’S LABORATORIES: RELATIVE STRENGTH IN A WEAK MARKET

Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories stood out on September 28 as one of the few Nifty 50 stocks trading strongly while the broader market faced heavy selling pressure. The Nifty 50 declined 1.56% to close at 22,780.25, while Dr. Reddy’s gained around 1.67% to ₹1,221. The contrast is important: when the benchmark falls sharply, stocks that manage to hold or gain can attract attention for relative-strength setups. The broader market was under pressure from elevated crude oil prices, higher US Treasury yields and continuing geopolitical uncertainty. India VIX also jumped more than 12% to 13.69, reflecting the rise in market volatility. For Dr. Reddy’s, the fundamental triggers are different from the broader macro picture. Investors can track the company's US generics business, new product launches, India formulations, margins and regulatory developments. Technical setup: ₹1,220–₹1,225 is the immediate zone to watch after Monday's close. A sustained move above this range with higher volumes could indicate that buyers are continuing to defend the stock despite broader market weakness. On the downside, ₹1,200 becomes an important psychological support. A move below this level could indicate that the recent relative strength is weakening. The broader Nifty setup also remains important. Technical analysts are watching 22,700 as a key support, while 22,800–22,900 is being viewed as an important recovery zone. • ₹1,220–₹1,225 breakout zone • ₹1,200 psychological support • US generics performance • Regulatory developments • Margin trajectory • Volume confirmation • Relative performance versus Nifty 50 View: Dr. Reddy’s ability to remain positive during a 1.56% Nifty decline makes it an interesting stock to monitor. The key confirmation will be whether this relative strength continues with price and volume support. Disclosure:I have no holding or financial interest in Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories at the time of writing.
