BSE in line for Nifty 50 leap? Nuvama sees Wipro exit, $741 million inflow potential
BSE Ltd is back in the market spotlight after Nuvama Alternative & Quantitative Research flagged the stock exchange as a likely candidate to enter the Nifty 50 in the September 2026 index reshuffle.
BSE shares gained around 1.5% on Monday as investors reacted to the possibility of the exchange replacing IT major Wipro in the benchmark index. Nuvama said BSE’s significantly higher free-float market capitalisation strengthens the case for its inclusion.
The potential index upgrade could be more than a symbolic milestone for BSE. Nuvama estimates that the stock could attract around $741 million in passive fund inflows if it is included in the Nifty 50. In contrast, Wipro could face estimated passive outflows of nearly $246 million following its potential exclusion.
The development comes as BSE moves up the index ladder, with its transition from the Nifty Midcap 150 toward the Nifty 100 reflecting the sharp increase in its free-float market capitalisation.
While the final decision will depend on the official September index review, the prospect of BSE joining India’s most tracked equity benchmark has already put the exchange firmly on investors’ radar.
