HDFC Bank CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan to Step Down

HDFCBANK
CEO and Managing Director Sashidhar Jagdishan has decided not to seek reappointment when his current term ends on October 26, 2026. The development marks a significant leadership transition for India’s largest private-sector lender, with the bank now set to begin the process of identifying his successor. Jagdishan took charge as HDFC Bank’s MD and CEO in October 2020, succeeding long-time chief executive Aditya Puri. During his tenure, the bank navigated the post-merger integration of HDFC Ltd and continued to expand its lending and deposit franchise. Jagdishan has also been a long-standing member of HDFC Bank’s leadership, having joined the institution in 1996 and later serving as its Chief Financial Officer. His decision comes as the private banking sector sees a series of leadership changes, making succession planning an important focus for investors. HDFC Bank’s next leadership phase will be closely watched as the lender works to maintain its growth trajectory, asset quality and profitability while managing the transition at the top.
