is trying to move beyond its traditional role in defence electronics and into the development of complete weapon systems, a shift that could materially change the company’s addressable opportunity. The company has formed ShauryAstra Defence Systems and subscribed to a 34% stake for ₹34,000. The new associate will focus on complete weapon systems, long-range systems, unmanned platforms and other advanced defence technologies, under the scientific leadership of Dr. V. K. Saraswat. The more interesting part is the change in positioning. Apollo has historically built critical electronics and subsystems used in defence platforms. Moving into system design and development gives it the potential to capture more value from the final solution rather than remaining only a component supplier. The company has also recently been selected by the Indian Air Force for the Indigenous Precision Range Extension Kit programme. The stock is therefore interesting not simply because of a new subsidiary, but because Apollo is attempting to climb higher up the defence value chain. The opportunity is potentially larger, although the real test will be whether these new programmes translate into successful development, orders and scalable execution.
