According to a Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) report titled ‘Wind at the Core: Driving India's Green Ambitions and International Influence’, India’s wind energy capacity is expected to exceed 100 GW, rising from the existing 51 GW to 107 GW by 2030. The report emphasizes that this increase corresponds with state-level Resource Adequacy Plans and is essential for India’s most economical energy transition route. Although organizations such as NREL, IEA, WRI, and Lawrence Berkeley indicate an even greater potential of 121-164 GW by 2030, the report emphasizes the necessity to tackle grid issues, enhance Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) adherence, and synchronize bidding methods with state requirements. At present, roughly 30 GW of projects are in development, with an anticipated addition of 6-7 GW this year. India has risen to become the third-largest wind manufacturing center globally, with capacity increasing from 12 GW in 2022 to 20 GW in 2024, allowing it to satisfy 10% of worldwide demand. The sector offers substantial employment and export potential, with the possibility of generating up to 1.54 lakh jobs each year if installations reach 15 GW annually. In 2023, India shipped 3 GW of wind energy apparatus, while China still leads with 60% of the worldwide export market. India has an unexploited wind potential of 1,164 GW, with merely 4.5% currently in use
