According to the Deloitte Consumer Signals India Report 2025, Indian consumers are spending with greater confidence but still cautiously. India's Financial Well-Being Index rose to 110.3, surpassing the global average of 103.6. Simultaneously, consumer confidence increased by eight points Year-on-Year, marking its peak since 2022. Intentions to spend have risen in travel, automotive, and lifestyle sectors, driven by reduced inflationary pressures and steady prices for fuel and food. Approximately 62% of households intend to increase discretionary spending over the next six months, particularly in travel (up 11%), personal electronics (up 9%), and vehicles (up 7%). Despite increased spending, over 70% of urban consumers are still saving the same amount or more than prior to the pandemic, indicating a prudent yet financially secure middle class.
Spending on leisure and lifestyle is picking up speed, with travel and hospitality becoming regular household priorities. The Vehicle Purchase Intent Index increased by 6.6 points year-over-year, indicating a rising interest in high-end, technologically advanced vehicles and electric options, with 60% of consumers intending to buy Electric Vehicles (EVs). India’s Food Frugality Index has dropped, indicating that consumers are shifting from cost-cutting to more thoughtful, value-oriented consumption. Specialists highlighted that India's harmonious consumption trend, merging aspiration, affordability, and sustainability, signifies a fresh phase of intentional spending. India maintains a lead over global counterparts in consumer confidence and financial stability, thanks to enhanced savings habits, positive outlook, and beneficial reforms.
