Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal mentioned that India's exports in agriculture and fisheries have attained Rs. 4,50,000 crore (US$ 52.58 billion) and possess the ability to increase to Rs. 20,00,000 crore (US$ 233.67 billion) emphasizing food processing, branding, and packaging more intensively. He emphasized the diversification of India’s export portfolio to encompass non-traditional products like jamun, litchi, pineapple, and bottle gourd, with jamun recently shipped to the UK and litchis from Punjab arriving in Doha and Dubai. He also mentioned the increasing prominence of Indian millets in Gulf markets and their worldwide acknowledgment owing to the International Year of Millets initiative. He stressed the significance of creating a robust agricultural supply chain and encouraging water conservation via drip irrigation and energy-saving pumps. He emphasized that these technologies can lower input expenses, enhance sustainability, and increase productivity. The government is additionally promoting organic farming through blockchain-enabled certification, improving packaging and design, and bolstering infrastructure via initiatives such as e-NAM, the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, and the Drone Didi program. He restated the government's dedication to boosting farmers' earnings and achieving self-sufficiency in agriculture.
