As per information from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India's overall wireless subscriber count, which encompasses mobile and 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), hit 1,171.91 million in July 2025, rising from 1,170.88 million in June 2025. The increase of 0.09% was mainly driven by urban subscriptions, which grew by 3.16 million to reach 641.03 million, while rural subscriptions fell by 2.12 million to 530.88 million. As a result, urban regions comprised 54.70% of the overall base, while rural areas represented 45.30%. In July 2025, wireless tele-density increased to 82.75%, aided by a rise in urban tele-density to 125.74%, while rural tele-density fell to 58.57%.
Mobile subscriptions (excluding FWA) increased slightly from 1,163.03 million in June 2025 to 1,163.51 million in July 2025, marking a 0.04% growth. Urban mobile users increased by 2.88 million, whereas rural mobile subscriptions decreased by 2.39 million, resulting in their shares being 54.66% and 45.34%, respectively. Mobile tele-density fell marginally to 82.16% in July 2025, highlighting differing trends between urban and rural areas. Throughout the month, 15.41 million subscribers requested Mobile Number Portability (MNP), highlighting the need for network flexibility.
