Corporate treasuries in India are rapidly increasing investment in automation and artificial intelligence (AI) to propel their next transformation phase, as per the EY India Corporate Treasury Survey 2025. Almost 50% of the 85 treasury leaders interviewed listed the automation of treasury and banking processes as their main investment focus, while 82% recognized AI as essential to future strategy. The transition of AI adoption is advancing from trial initiatives to practical implementation, with cash forecasting becoming the top application. Additional sectors gaining momentum comprise foreign exchange (9%), trade finance (8%), and optimization of working capital (6%). Mr. Hemal Shah, Partner in Consulting Services at EY India, stated that treasury teams need to automate their processes while maintaining control, manage risks to facilitate growth, and provide real-time, predictive insights for informed decision-making. The survey emphasized an increasing demand to merge financial knowledge with digital proficiency. Approximately 49% of participants indicated an even 50:50 distribution between functional and technology positions, whereas 35% favored a 70:30 ratio that leans towards financial knowledge. Hybrid and modular models are increasingly prevalent, with 35% outsourcing technology upkeep, 25% outsourcing back-office bookkeeping, and 11% outsourcing front-office trading activities. Nevertheless, over 70% of treasury departments continue to depend on spreadsheets, and two-thirds encounter inadequate reporting and dashboarding functions. Skill gaps persist, as 52% of leaders point out the importance of technical skills and 50% highlight the need for domain knowledge, but numerous organizations do not have organized training programs. EY forecasts that by 2030, treasuries will function as digitally native control centers, leveraging real-time data and advanced systems to foresee risks, direct capital allocation, and enhance organizational resilience
