Festive Hiring Set to Surge 15–20% in India as Retail, E-Commerce & Quick Commerce Gear Up

Temporary hiring across organised retail, e-commerce, quick commerce, logistics, FMCG and consumer durables is projected to rise by 15–20% during the 2026 festive season, according to TeamLease Services’ Festive Season Workforce Report 2026. With festive e-commerce GMV exceeding Rs. 1.2 lakh crore last season and quick commerce increasing its share of festive spending from 8% to 12%, companies are increasingly hiring specialised frontline workers to manage longer sale periods, faster deliveries and omnichannel demand. Frontline salaries are expected to grow by 8–10% in H2 2026, while effective take-home pay could rise by 5–8% amid labour law changes. Hiring is expected to be particularly strong across South and West India, with Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad emerging as key markets. Tier-1 cities are projected to account for 40.5% of the frontline workforce, while Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets are expected to contribute 26.5% and 33%, respectively. Warehouse pickers, packers and dark-store staff are likely to remain the largest hiring categories, alongside retail associates, promoters, cashiers and fulfilment executives.
