In 2025-26, India reached its record annual solar capacity increase of approximately 45 GW, almost doubling the rate of the previous year and solidifying its status as one of the fastest-growing clean energy markets globally. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Mr. Pralhad Joshi stated that this accomplishment signifies India’s robust dedication to energy security, sustainable growth, and the vision of Viksit Bharat. The drive was fueled by extensive implementations in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, which collectively accelerated the nation's shift towards a more sustainable electricity system. One significant operational achievement was 6.65 GW of solar installations in March 2026, marking the largest capacity increase in a single month and showcasing improved execution abilities in both utility-scale and distributed solar areas. The milestone also indicates enhanced ecosystem preparedness in local manufacturing, grid integration, and policy assistance. India has surpassed 150 GW of installed solar capacity, and this significant annual increase reinforces the nation's long-term renewable energy prospects and helps achieve industrial decarbonization targets. The ongoing increase in government-sponsored projects is anticipated to enhance investments in transmission networks, battery storage, green hydrogen, and solar manufacturing, generating export prospects for modules, inverters, and balance-of-system elements. The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) also issued a dividend cheque of Rs. 115 crore (US$ 124.08 million) to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, indicating strong financial performance in the sector and public-sector trust in the growth of renewable infrastructure.
