Incorporation of new tourism trends in Swadesh Darshan 2.0

The Ministry of Tourism has greatly amplified its initiatives to create sustainable tourism infrastructure via three primary programs: Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0), Challenge-Based Destination Development (CBDD), and Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI). Under SD2.0, 52 projects have been approved in various states, emphasizing a wide range of tourist attractions including beaches, caves, forts, biodiversity areas, and spiritual centers. The program encourages sustainable tourism by integrating environmental, socio-cultural, and economic factors, providing immersive experiences such as tribal culture, underwater tourism, bird sanctuaries, and wellness facilities. Another 36 projects have been approved under CBDD to enhance eco-tourism, adventure tourism, and heritage development in developing destinations. SASCI has greenlit 40 major projects to revitalize prominent tourist sites across the country. To enhance regional air connectivity, the Ministry of Civil Aviation initiated the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) program. During its third bidding round, 106 routes tailored for tourism were included at the request of the Ministry of Tourism. By January 31, 2025, 53 of these routes were in operation with complete Viability Gap Funding (VGF). An updated UDAN initiative intends to link 120 additional locations and serve four crore travelers in the coming ten years, incorporating minor airports and helipads in distant areas. Moreover, the redesigned Incredible India Digital Platform (IIDP), utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI), now offers real-time weather information, tailored itineraries, and effortless booking through partnerships with Online Travel Agents (OTAs). These integrated initiatives emphasize the government's dedication to inclusive and sustainable growth in tourism
