India aims to achieve a turmeric export goal of Rs. 8,549 crore (US$ 1 billion) by the year 2030, according to Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah.

On June 29, Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Mr. Amit Shah revealed that the Central Government aims to achieve turmeric exports worth Rs. 8,549 crore (US$ 1 billion) by the year 2030. While inaugurating the National Headquarters of the Turmeric Board in Nizamabad, Telangana, he mentioned that the board would concentrate on packaging, branding, marketing, and facilitating exports overseas. The newly established board is anticipated to play a crucial role in ensuring profitable prices for turmeric farmers, aiding in research and development, and enhancing global interest in Indian turmeric. He emphasized that the creation of the Turmeric Board fulfills Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s promise made during the 2023 assembly elections to the turmeric farmers in Telangana. The establishment of the board responds to a long-standing request from farmers in Nizamabad. Additionally, the Central Government has set aside Rs. 200 crore (US$ 23.39 million) to enhance crop quality, perform research, and improve farmer livelihoods. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) praised Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi for fulfilling his pledge, describing it as a significant advancement in empowering farmers. Mr. Dharmapuri Arvind, the BJP Member of Parliament for Lok Sabha, had committed to founding the board during the 2019 elections. The Centre's dedication to increasing turmeric exports supports its wider strategy to elevate agricultural value through organized market connections and export-driven growth.
