India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) aim to significantly increase bilateral trade in non-oil and non-precious metals to US$ 100 billion in the next three to four years, rising from the existing US$ 50-55 billion. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal announced the decision during the 13th meeting of the India-UAE High-Level Joint Task Force on Investments, which he co-chaired alongside Managing Director of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Mr. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal emphasized that increasing trade in local currencies is enhancing operational ease by lowering transaction expenses for companies. He mentioned that both parties also concurred to investigate fresh opportunities for investment and cooperation in vital areas, such as maritime, defense, aerospace, and space technology. Furthermore, India and the UAE will collaborate on strategies to enhance investments in areas like Africa and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), utilizing the UAE’s financial power and India’s skilled workforce.
