India Emphasizes Support for Transparent Multilateral Trade at WTO Review
During its eighth Trade Policy Review at the World Trade Organization (WTO), India reaffirmed its dedication to a transparent, rules-based, and non-discriminatory global trading framework. Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal emphasized the nation's efforts to deepen international economic ties by expanding Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), maintaining a liberalized Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) regime, and fostering robust partnerships with developing economies. This review allowed WTO members to evaluate India's evolving policies, which aim to cultivate a predictable and inclusive environment for global commerce while supporting structural reforms that drive market access and equitable growth. Amid shifting geopolitical dynamics and evolving supply chains, India is increasingly positioning itself as a reliable global trade partner. Continued efforts to broaden bilateral and regional agreements are set to boost export competitiveness, integrate domestic businesses into global value chains, and solidify the country's status as a top investment destination. Furthermore, India’s focus on South-South cooperation underscores its commitment to technical and economic collaboration among developing nations, paving the way for sustained, inclusive expansion as one of the world's fastest-growing major economies.
