India has entered an exclusive group of five countries with a domestically created 4G technology stack prepared for exports, signaling a significant achievement in technological self-sufficiency, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi stated during the opening of the India Mobile Congress (IMC). He mentioned that the updated 4G infrastructure would provide quicker internet speeds, more dependable services, and uninterrupted connectivity, enhancing India's digital advantage. He emphasized India's development from facing 2G challenges to attaining widespread 5G availability, noting that digital connectivity has become essential to people's lives. He observed that mobile phone manufacturing has risen 28 times since 2014, exports have soared 127 times, and the production of electronics has expanded six-fold. He stressed that India's workforce, flexibility, and attitude enable it to take a global lead and urged investment in areas like semiconductors, electronics, and startups, supported by programs such as the Digital Innovation Square and the Telecom Technology Development Fund. He emphasized the government's commitment to cyber security and data sovereignty, highlighting tougher laws against cyber fraud and enhanced grievance resolution systems. He mentioned that global supply chain disruptions present India with opportunities, particularly in semiconductor manufacturing, where ten units are currently in development. Union Minister for Communications Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized that the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for manufacturing telecom equipment has produced Rs. ₹91,000 crore (US$ 10.25 billion) in output, Rs. Exports of 18,000 crore (US$ 2.03 billion), resulting in 30,000 new employment opportunities.
