India has secured the presidency of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences on June 3, 2025.

On June 3, 2025, India secured the presidency of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) during a Special General Assembly Meeting held in Brussels. India received 87 votes, while Austria garnered 54 votes, and will lead the presidency from 2025 to 2028. Since 1998, the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances has represented India as a member state of the IIAS. The IIAS is a consortium of 31 member nations, 20 national sections, and 15 academic research institutes that collaborate on scientific research related to public administration. It works closely with the United Nations, participating in the UN's Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) and the UN Public Administration Network (UNPAN). For the presidency period of 2025-28, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi put forward Secretary DARPG Mr. V. Srinivas as a nominee in November 2024. The selection hearings took place in February 2025 in New Delhi. Nominations were submitted by India, South Africa, Austria, and Bahrain. South Africa withdrew its nomination in May 2025, leading to a final election between India and Austria, where India achieved 61.7% of the votes. India’s presidency of the IIAS will promote the goal of "Maximum Governance - Minimum Government," aiming at next-generation administrative reforms, empowering citizens digitally, and transforming institutions through digital means. It seeks to narrow the North-South divide while focusing on unity and inclusion. This election marks a historic first for the IIAS, being the first time in its 100-year history that the presidential election was conducted by ballot and the first time India has obtained this significant mandate.
