India's Auto Industry Secures US$ 717 Million Across 20 Transactions in Q2 2026
According to Grant Thornton Bharat’s latest Automotive Dealtracker, India’s automotive sector saw 20 mergers, acquisitions, and PE/VC transactions totaling ₹6,900.41 crore (US$ 717 million) in the second quarter of 2026. Although the total number of deals dropped to its lowest point since Q2 2023, the overall deal value experienced only a marginal 4% decline from the previous quarter. This resilience indicates a strong, ongoing investor appetite for high-ticket opportunities, with capital primarily flowing into forward-looking segments like electric vehicles (EVs), mobility platforms, and advanced automotive technologies.
When excluding public market activities, the sector recorded 18 private transactions valued at ₹4,610.50 crore (US$ 479 million). Mergers and acquisitions accounted for five of these deals, largely driven by KPIT Technologies' ₹1,154.88 crore (US$ 120 million) acquisition of Israeli firm Cymotive Technologies—a move that highlights the industry's growing focus on software-defined vehicles and cybersecurity. Meanwhile, private equity and venture capital contributed ₹3,281.78 crore (US$ 341 million) across 13 deals, dominated by massive fundraises from Rapido and JBM Ecolife Mobility. Ultimately, despite a more cautious funding climate, strategic investors remain highly committed to technology-driven mobility and the expanding EV ecosystem.
