India's automobile industry demonstrated robust sales in May 2026, highlighting enduring domestic demand and favorable trends in passenger vehicles, utility vehicles, and commercial vehicles. Maruti Suzuki India reached its all-time peak monthly sales, with 2,42,688 units sold, comprising a record 1,93,535 units domestically and 41,914 units exported. Hyundai Motor India achieved total sales of 61,137 units, which included 47,837 units sold domestically and 13,300 units shipped abroad, as domestic sales in the initial two months of FY27 increased by 13% compared to the previous year, reaching 99,739 units. The robust performance underscores enduring consumer demand and an increasing inclination towards personal mobility options. Industry players credited the expansion to better economic conditions, increasing rural demand, and ongoing interest in feature-laden passenger vehicles. The favorable trend highlights the robustness of India’s automotive manufacturing sector and its role in industrial development, export growth, and job creation. Mahindra & Mahindra announced total auto sales of 99,636 vehicles, comprising exports, achieving a 20% increase compared to the last year. The company's sales of utility vehicles in the domestic market hit 58,021 units, whereas its farm equipment division saw a 23% increase, with domestic tractor sales climbing to 47,845 units. Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced sales of 33,128 units, showing a 7% increase compared to the previous year, driven by robust demand for hybrid and utility vehicle models. The firm has also achieved a noteworthy milestone of three lakh Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicle (SHEV) sales in India, underscoring increasing consumer acceptance of eco-friendly transportation options.
