India's emergence as a hub for robotics: The nation ranks among the top 10 markets for installations.

India is becoming an important contender in the global industrial robot market, recording the highest growth rate for installations in 2023. The International Federation of Robotics reported that India installed 8,510 industrial robots in 2023, which is a 59% increase compared to the previous year. This impressive growth ranks India seventh among the ten leading markets worldwide, surpassing France, Mexico, Spain, and Italy. Although there have been variations in annual installations, India has demonstrated significant progress over the last decade, particularly evident in 2021 and 2023. The automotive sector leads in the adoption of industrial robots in India, representing 42% of the overall market share, with installations rising by 139% to 3,551 units in 2023. Other industries, including rubber and plastics, have also played a role in this growth with a 17% rise in installations. Nonetheless, India remains behind in robot density, which is a crucial measure of industrial automation advancement. In 2021, India had only seven robots for every 10,000 manufacturing employees, in contrast to the global average of 141. Even in the automotive sector, where India excels, the density was just 148 robots per 10,000 workers, notably lower than South Korea's 2,867, Germany's 1,500, and China's 772. While the number of robots in India is increasing, it is starting from a very low level, suggesting there is considerable potential for further growth and enhancement in the utilization of industrial robots across various industries.
