India's exports likely to touch record Rs. 70,00,800 crore (US$ 800 billion) this year: Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal

India's exports are witnessing significant growth and are expected to reach a record Rs. 70,00,800 crore (US$ 800 billion) in FY25, according to Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal. He emphasized that exports have risen notably over the past four years and will continue to grow, dismissing concerns about a decline. Addressing the Rajya Sabha, he assured that foreign exchange (forex) reserves have remained above Rs. 52,50,600 crore (US$ 600 billion) for several months. He also highlighted that certain imports, such as petroleum products, coking coal, pulses, and edible oils, are essential due to domestic shortages and rising demand. The increase in imports, driven by higher domestic consumption, is a positive economic indicator. He explained that while imports are rising in specific sectors, they attract industries, leading to job creation and increased investments. Establishing domestic production units will take time, but import substitution will strengthen the economy in the long run. The 2025-26 Budget has also provided tax relief to the middle class, boosting consumption spending. This strategic approach sustains economic momentum while balancing imports, exports, and domestic growth.
