India's health models offer sustainable solutions for Global South: Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi
Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi highlighted India’s strides in healthcare through a robust network of thousands of health and wellness centres that facilitate early screening and detection of diseases like cancer, diabetes, and hypertension. He also emphasised the contribution of public pharmacies in providing affordable, high-quality medicines. Underscoring the role of technology, he pointed to India’s digital health platforms that track vaccinations for pregnant women and children and support the integration of benefits, insurance, and medical records through a unique digital health identity system. He noted that telemedicine has bridged the gap between patients and doctors, with over 340 million consultations conducted through the country’s free service. Reflecting on these initiatives, he observed a significant decline in out-of-pocket expenditure and a notable rise in government health spending. Stressing the need to care for the most vulnerable, he said the world's health hinges on such efforts. Mr. Narendra Modi underscored that India’s healthcare model offers scalable, replicable, and sustainable solutions, particularly for the Global South, and expressed readiness to share its experiences. Ahead of the 11th International Day of Yoga in June, he invited global participation under the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' reinforcing India’s role as the birthplace of Yoga. He also commended the World Health Organization (WHO) and member states on the successful negotiations of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) treaty, calling it a testament to global cooperation in preparing for future pandemics. Concluding his address, he invoked a Vedic prayer wishing for a healthy and disease-free world, expressing hope that this shared vision would inspire global unity.
