India's information technology (IT) industry is set for significant expansion, with overall IT expenditure anticipated to hit Rs. 15,61,665 crore (US$ 176.3 billion) in 2026, an increase of 10.6% compared to 2025, as reported by Gartner, Inc., a worldwide research and advisory company. The increase is mainly fueled by robust investments in software and data centres. The data centre systems sector is expected to achieve the fastest yearly growth, increasing by 20.5% in 2026, as businesses swiftly embrace cloud and digital technologies. Increasing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, along with data localization regulations, is anticipated to enhance India’s IT ecosystem and draw foreign investment into domestic infrastructure. Software expenditures are projected to rise by 17.6% to Rs. 2,18,793 crore (US$ 24.7 billion) is projected, fueled by AI-powered applications and advanced IT infrastructure, while IT services are anticipated to increase by 11.1% in 2026, with ongoing double-digit growth of 12-14% in the following years. The swift growth of global capability centers and the availability of a skilled, cost-effective workforce will further strengthen India’s role as a center for digital transformation. Mr. D. D. Mishra, Vice President and analyst at Gartner, states that organizations' emphasis on infrastructure-as-a-service, consulting, and application modernization will keep driving the industry forward. Simultaneously, advancing technologies like generative AI will be integrated into software platforms, influencing the future stage of India's IT investment scenario
