India's smartphone sector experiences 8% volume increase in Q2 2025: Report
According to Counterpoint Research, India's smartphone market experienced an 8% year-over-year growth in volume and an 18% increase in wholesale value in Q2 2025, bouncing back from a sluggish Q1 2025. The iPhone 16 became the device with the highest shipment numbers. Simultaneously, vivo topped the shipment volume with a 20% market share, trailed by Samsung (16%), Oppo (13%), realme (10%), and Xiaomi (8%). Regarding value, Samsung and Apple both secured 23%, while vivo held 15%, Oppo obtained 10%, realme accounted for 6%, and OnePlus represented 4%. The total recovery was fueled by a 33% YoY increase in new product introductions, assertive marketing, and robust summer sales, particularly in the mid and premium sectors, bolstered by discounts, bundled deals, and accessible Equated Monthly Installments (EMIs). Enhanced macroeconomic conditions also bolstered this expansion. Retail inflation dropped to its lowest point in six years, and reductions in the central bank’s repo rate made borrowing cheaper. Extra tax relief strategies boosted disposable income, fostering discretionary spending. These elements led to a 37% year-over-year increase in the ultra-premium category, which is priced above Rs. 45,000 (US$ 513.65), establishing it as the category with the highest growth rate. The market achieved its record highest ever Q2 2025 regarding value and average selling price. Analysts anticipate that the favorable sentiment and consumer confidence will maintain momentum in the second half of 2025.
