India seeks to rank among the top five sports nations in the world by 2047, marking the 100th anniversary of independence, stated Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, during the opening of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Ahmedabad. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s guidance, India has achieved significant advancements in the sports field, implementing numerous reforms to enhance infrastructure, athlete training, and governance. He mentioned that the nation has also proposed to host the 2036 Olympics and aims to be within the top 10 sporting countries in the next ten years. He highlighted important programs like the Target Podium Olympic Scheme, which offers top athletes international visibility and resources to improve their performance. He also highlighted the newly launched Sports Policy, aimed at enhancing sports science, broadening access, and fostering contemporary infrastructure.
