India strengthens regional statistical connections in collaboration with United Nations (UN) organizations.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is organizing a three-day Regional Workshop on “Data Ethics, Governance, and Quality in a Changing Data Ecosystem” in partnership with the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UNSIAP) and the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) scheduled for July 14 to 16, 2025. This workshop gathers Chief Statisticians and Leaders of National Statistical Offices (NSOs) from 16 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, comprising Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Viet Nam. The event showcases India’s dedication to ethical and forward-thinking data systems. Secretary of MoSPI, Dr Saurabh Garg, highlighted the significance of tackling data ethics and quality for policymaking rooted in evidence. The workshop consists of four thematic sessions that address the changing role of NSOs, updating institutional frameworks, ensuring quality in official statistics, and embracing modern statistical production architectures. These sessions are enhanced by engaging breakout activities and group discussions, providing chances for peer learning and sharing of experiences. The workshop seeks to enhance the ability of NSOs to stay relevant and trustworthy in the swiftly evolving data environment. It emphasizes the significance of South-South collaboration and the exchange of effective practices to aid NSOs in adjusting to emerging technologies and data sources. After the regional workshop, a two-day National Capacity Building Workshop is scheduled for July 17 to 18, 2025, aimed at enhancing statistical systems in the States and Union Territories of India.
