India will ship 150 locomotives manufactured in Bihar to Guinea as part of a deal valued at Rs. 3,000 crore (approximately US$ 345.9 million).

As part of the "Make in India" initiative, the Marhowrah Diesel Locomotive Factory in Bihar is poised to export 150 Evolution Series ES43ACmi locomotives to Guinea for its Simandou iron ore project. This export agreement, developed in collaboration with Wabtec, is estimated to be worth over Rs. 3,000 crore (approximately US$ 345.9 million) and notably enhances India’s presence in the global railway manufacturing sector. The delivery timeline extends over three years: 37 locomotives will be delivered in the current fiscal year, followed by 82 in the subsequent year, and 31 in the final year. Each locomotive is designed with Alternating Current (AC) propulsion and regenerative braking, featuring a single AC cab, ergonomic amenities for the crew, and sophisticated control systems, allowing them to efficiently transport 100-wagon loads at the maximum speed allowed. The Marhowrah facility, which has broad, standard, and Cape gauge tracks, accommodates a variety of international specifications and testing requirements. Awarded through a global competitive bidding process, this project demonstrates India's industrial prowess. These 4,500 Horsepower (HP) locomotives utilize modular architecture, microprocessor controls, high emissions compliance, and safety features including fire detection and a Distributed Power Wireless Control System (DPWCS) for coordinated operations. In addition to bolstering India's export capabilities, this deal enhances cooperation between India and Africa and aids in the development of Guinea’s infrastructure. The factory directly employs 285 people, with over 1,200 benefiting indirectly. Throughout India, more than 2,100 individuals are employed through the joint venture, highlighting the economic and technological significance of the project.
