Larsen & Toubro's (L&T) Hydrocarbon Onshore division has secured a significant Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning contract from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for building the largest flexible petrochemical plant in India. It is important to highlight that this contract would be categorised as a major project by L&T, typically falling within the range of Rs. 5,000 crore (US$600 million) to Indian Rupees. 10,000 crore (US$1.2 billion). The initiative involves building a Linear Low-Density PoPolyetheneLLDPE) / High-Density Polyethene (HDPE) Swing Unit featuring two 575 KTPA trains, to be developed under a Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK) contract for BPCL’s Bina facility in Madhya Pradesh. Upon becoming operational, the plant is anticipated to establish a new standard in the country for polyethene production capacity and is a crucial component of BPCL's Bina Petrochemicals and Refinery Expansion project, which seeks to create a comprehensive petrochemical complex and improve refinery capacity. The initiative aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision of the Government of India, focusing on the comprehensive growth of domestic manufacturing and reducing reliance on imported polymers. Representatives from both L&T and BPCL have emphasised that the award reflects their confidence and belief in L&T's capabilities in executing projects and providing services in the onshore hydrocarbon sector.
