Ola Electric has initiated the distribution of its Ola Shakti 9.1 kWh home Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Bengaluru, representing a significant achievement in India's energy storage sector. The energy storage system, utilising 4680 Bharat Cells, is the inaugural residential battery energy storage system (BESS) developed and produced domestically, aimed at delivering intelligent, efficient, and dependable energy storage options for residential, agricultural, and commercial applications. The firm has started distributing the 6 kW/9.1 kWh model and will maintain this across the nation in the months ahead. Ola Electric has obtained Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for the 3 kW/5.2 kWh version of Shakti, in addition to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for the 9.1 kWh model that was acquired on January 15, 2026. This certification will allow for the large-scale production and eventual sales of both models nationwide.
This initiative is part of Ola Electric's plan to transition from electric mobility into clean energy storage, utilising its internally developed technology for the Bharat Cell to foster local innovation. The introduction of the Shakti series aims to meet the increasing demand for dependable energy storage options in both residential and commercial environments, particularly in regions where the power grid is often unstable. The firm is anticipated to enhance energy independence and promote sustainability initiatives by offering certified, high-capacity residential battery energy storage systems (BESS) solutions.
