Sales of Electric Vehicles (EVs) increase by 28.6% in June, with electric passenger vehicles (e-PVs) and commercial vehicles (CVs) driving the growth

India's electric vehicle (EV) sector saw a 28.60% year-over-year rise in overall sales in June 2025, based on information provided by the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Associations (FADA). Mr. C.S. Vigneshwar, President of the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Associations, credited this growth to positive government measures, especially the Prime Minister e-Drive Scheme, along with a rise in local investments targeting EV advancements. He observed that the growth of charging infrastructure and increasing consumer awareness are helping to align India's EV transition with its broader climate and energy security goals. In June 2025, 1,80,238 electric vehicle units were sold, fueled by strong growth in electric passenger vehicles (e-PVs) and ongoing demand in the two-wheeler, three-wheeler, and commercial vehicle sectors. E-PV sales surged to 13,178 units, marking a 79.95% increase from 7,323 units in June 2024. Their portion of overall EV sales increased to 4.4% from 2.5%. Sales of electric two-wheelers increased by 31.69% year-on-year to 1,05,355 units, representing 7.3% of the two-wheeler market. Electric three-wheelers maintained their lead in EV sales with 60,559 units sold, marking a 15.79% increase and representing 60.2% of the EV market. The electric commercial vehicle segment, despite its smaller size, recorded the most significant year-over-year growth of 122.5%. Total automobile retail sales surpassed two million units in June 2025, reflecting a 5% rise compared to June 2024.
