Strong festive demand and price reductions due to Goods and Services Tax (GST) led to passenger vehicle, two-wheeler, and three-wheeler shipments reaching record levels for October 2025, as reported by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Wholesales of passenger vehicles increased by 17% to 4,60,739 units, up from 3,93,238 units the previous year. Sales of two-wheelers rose by 2% to 22,10,727 units, driven by scooter sales which climbed 14% to 8,24,003 units, while motorcycle shipments dropped 4% to 13,35,468 units. Three-wheeler sales increased by 6% to reach 81,288 units. SIAM stated that the increase was fueled by holiday purchases and reduced GST rates after revisions, even though some logistical issues were impacting supplies. The updated GST rates that took effect on September 22, 2025, resulted in registrations in October increasing more significantly than wholesales, indicating robust retail demand.
