Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin today launched Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle facility in Ranipet, representing a significant achievement for the Indian automobile sector. This represents an investment of US$ 991.84 million (Rs. 9,000 crore) signifies India's official entry into the global manufacturing network of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which consists of the UK, Austria, China, and Brazil. As stated by Tata Sons Chairman Mr. N. Chandrasekaran, the facility is projected to generate between 250,000 and 300,000 units each year, encompassing both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Electric Vehicle (EV) offerings; the Land Rover Evoque was the initial vehicle manufactured at the launch site.
Tata Group's move into Tamil Nadu is set to generate jobs and bolster local businesses, with an expected 5,000 jobs directly tied to this initiative. Mr. T.R.B. Rajaa (Tamil Nadu Minister of Industries) remarked that this investment will trigger remarkable growth rates for supporting industries in the Ranipet area, where Tata Group has made significant inroads through subsidiaries such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Power, and Tata Electronics in recent decades. Moreover, the launch of the new facility will aid in cultivating locally skilled workers through the state's Skill Development Corporation to guarantee a sustainable future workforce for advanced automotive manufacturing in Tamil Nadu.
