Tea exports from India increased by 9.92%, reaching 254.67 million kilograms in 2024 due to greater production.

India's tea exports experienced a year-on-year increase of 9.92%, totaling 254.67 million kilograms (KG) in the calendar year 2024, compared to 231.69 million kg in 2023, as reported by the Tea Board. Production in northern India also saw a significant rise, reaching 154.81 million kg in 2024, which represents a 9.79% growth from 141 million kg the previous year. In southern India, tea production rose by 10.11% year-on-year, amounting to 99.86 million kg in 2024, up from 90.69 million kg in 2023. Preliminary figures for the first quarter of 2025 indicate that total tea production across India reached 69.22 million kg, slightly higher than the 67.53 million kg recorded during the same period last year. Northern India was the leader in growth, with a 14.38% rise in Q1 2025, producing 45.35 million kg compared to 39.65 million kg the previous year. Conversely, production in southern India saw a decline of 14.38%, dropping to 23.87 million kg in Q1 2025, down from 27.88 million kg in the same timeframe of 2024.
