The 9th edition of India Pharma 2026, held by the Department of Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with FICCI and the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA), wrapped up after two days of in-depth discussions aimed at enhancing India’s pharmaceutical and biopharma landscape. The second day included two plenary sessions and a closing session, focusing on enhancing the pharmaceutical financing ecosystem and developing future-oriented strategies for innovation-driven growth. Over 800 attendees, over 60 speakers from national and international backgrounds, and 10 sessions backed by more than 20 partner organisations highlighted the extent of stakeholder involvement. The discussions emphasized that strategic investments, infrastructure growth, and quicker implementation will be the three essential drivers for India’s upcoming phase of pharmaceutical evolution.
A central theme that surfaced during the event was the industry's transition from scale-driven generics dominance to groundbreaking advancements in advanced therapeutics, biologics, and next-generation medicines. Talks on funding emphasized the significance of venture capital, private equity, blended finance, and public-private partnerships to facilitate lengthy R&D processes and high-risk innovation. Industry leaders such as Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Zydus Lifesciences, and Eli Lilly India highlighted the need for enhanced cooperation among government, academia, investors, and the industry to create a robust innovation ecosystem. The event underscored India's goal to develop into a global center for advanced therapeutics and innovation-led pharmaceutical expansion, bolstered by stronger ecosystem connections and AI-driven transformation.
