The Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer and the Indian conglomerate Mahindra Group aim to enhance their collaboration on the development of India's C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft project. The collaboration aims to enhance India’s Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) abilities for the aircraft, subject to the Indian Air Force’s choice of the aircraft in its Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) initiative. This follows the strategic alliance where the aircraft will be produced in India, aligning with the government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign and its effort to enhance the nation’s homegrown defence manufacturing skills. The collaboration will enhance India’s skills in aircraft development and manufacturing, while also offering the aviation industry the advantages of the advanced MRO facility, generating job opportunities and boosting the nation's capacity in developing the Indian aerospace sector, including the possibility of becoming a regional centre for aircraft maintenance and support services. The C-390 Millennium aircraft is capable of fulfilling various operational needs, such as transport, medical evacuation, and refuelling, among others, and can handle substantial payloads during its missions. Specialists assert that the collaboration will enhance the nation’s production abilities while also incorporating Indian firms into the worldwide value chain for the creation and production of aircraft and various other goods. Embraer presently operates multiple aircraft in India, spanning the defence and business sectors, and the suggested MRO facility will fulfil the needs of the Indian military while also assisting the global fleet of the same aircraft, boosting India’s capabilities in the advancement and support of the global aircraft as well as the Indian aviation industry overall.
