The first meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Defence Cooperation was held in New Delhi, India, on 09 December 2025, as part of the India-Brunei Defence Partnership, which began on 04 February 2023. The focus of the discussions was on enhancing military-to-military interaction, boosting joint training prospects, and strengthening collaboration in maritime security, particularly in safeguarding sea routes, providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), and developing capabilities. The two nations aimed to explore further opportunities for collaboration in Defence Industrial Cooperation and Technology Partnerships to enhance their strategic alliance. The meeting was jointly led by Mr. Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, and Ms. Poh Kui Choon, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Brunei. Prior to the start of the meeting, Mr. Amitabh Prasad and Ms. Poh Kui Choon signed the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the JWG, officially establishing its formation and creating the foundation for organized, enduring collaboration. Mr. Amitabh Prasad and Ms. Poh Kui Choon reiterated the mutual conviction of both countries regarding the significance of nurturing and maintaining an environment of peace and stability, as well as commitment to a rules-based framework in the Indo-Pacific Region. Ms. Poh Kui Choon also met with India's Defence Secretary, Mr. Rajesh Kumar Singh, and visited the New Defence Public Sector Undertaking Bhawan. This establishment offers a cohesive, contemporary platform for the sixteen Defence Public Sector Units situated in India.
