The government reports that 16.51 lakh families have gained from rooftop solar setups through PM Surya Ghar

The 'PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana' (PMSG: MBY) has greatly enhanced India's renewable energy initiatives, with around 16.51 lakh homes taking advantage of rooftop solar systems by July 2025. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Mr. Pralhad Joshi provided this information in response to a query in the Lok Sabha. The initiative, launched in February 2024, seeks to set up rooftop solar systems in ten million residential homes by 2026-27. Maharashtra tops the country in installations with 2,34,736, while Gujarat follows with 2,28,507 and Uttar Pradesh has 1,20,866 installations. Based on the information he provided, Arunachal Pradesh has indicated no installations. Simultaneously, Meghalaya and Sikkim have documented six and nine installations, respectively. A sum of 58,01,654 applications has been filed on the National Portal for the initiative. The effective execution of the plan is a crucial milestone for India's clean energy objectives. In another important advancement for India's renewable energy industry, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has successfully carried out its inaugural green ammonia auction. This auction, conducted as part of the SIGHT initiative of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, signifies a new phase of creativity and independence in the clean energy industry. The bidding at the auction reached Rs. 55.75 (US$ 0.64) for each kilogram of green ammonia procurement. These efforts together illustrate India's robust dedication to moving towards a sustainable and self-sufficient energy future, in line with its wider economic and environmental goals.
